A Jet Pump Artificial lift is a hydraulic lift method that utilizes high-pressurepower fluid—typically produced oil or water—to entrain and lift reservoir fluids to the surface. Unlike mechanical pumps, jet pumps have no downhole moving parts, making them highly reliable in abrasive, gassy, or deviated wells.
How it works
A high-pressure power fluid is pumped down the tubing to a downhole jet pump. Inside the pump, the power fluid is forced through a nozzle and mixes with the reservoir fluid at high velocity. This creates a low-pressure zone (Venturi effect) that draws in the well fluids, and the combined stream flows back to the surface.
Ideal for shale and tight reservoirs with high solids and gas content
Effective for early production systems (EPS) and well cleanup during flowback.
Preferred in complex well paths where mechanical lift systems are limited.
